Without a doubt. The 5.9's have a lackluster tune at best from the factory, especially if yours has had the "death flash" . Alot these 5.9's were flashed at the dealerships as per Chrysler because people were complaining of spark knock, so they were re-flashed w/ a tune that pulled some timing.

well dont know too much about the death flash.. if you can run 14.7 on the death flash then the reg flash should be pretty good.. id really like to loose the torque managment

If your running a 14.7 then your 9er has probobally not been re-flashed. With a good tune you should see a 14.4-14.5 no problem perhaps more (I always like to be conservative).

I'll bet the gears alone are worth .5

Jason your gears alone will be worth it, you can adjust to shift at 5100rpm like i currently do, not to mention remove torque management!!!

It's a built in "Throttle Lift" at each gear change to minimize shock to the transmission. ( In Basic terms )

I used to cut one of the wires in my CG 4.7 / 4.7HO pcm and it got rid of the torque management.

With my new tune, mu manual shifting actually feels worse then when I leave it up to SCT. i know it is crazy, but trust me, it was very hard to get used to.

Buy and 5.niner and a SCT or a 4.7 and cut the wire

Not really sure on the obd1,,,, what controls the transmission? The main PCM or is there a transmission computer or is that Trany total hydraulic

unless your tlaking about the 4.0 AW4 trans, which IIRC has an external TCM

What is this "death-flash" I have never heard of it. Is there any way to know if you have it on your 5.9?

if you can run 87 octane fuel in teh summer w/ no issues - you have the death flash.

people got all pissy that they ahd to put 91+ octane fuel in their 5.9's, so the dealers woudl flash the PCM with a tune that was 87 octane friendly.

Not sure but I thought if it had the death flash there was a flash version sticker on the PCM or by the info on the top radiator brace or both, and I thought maybe they stuck an Unleaded Only sticker over the Premium Only sticker on the gas filler door. Yes/no/maybe?
