Official Thread - TIRES
What Make, Model, and Size are you using?
What is your overall opinion on your tires? How well do they perform...especially on wet pavement? How well do they wear? Thanks for all your input. Last edited by Jpmag360; 03-04-2009 at 06:36 AM. |

I'm running Yokohoma Geolander HT/S 245/70/16... Need pics? CLICK ON THE LINK IN MY SIG.. then CAN SEE tires on Jeep
They are running pretty good, excellent traction on wet....not sure about snow yet (still on stands in garage) Dry pavement they hold well.

Running 265/65/17 BFG T/A KO's on a 2005 WK Limited with stock suspension minus the bolt.
I have never had any issues on/off road for over 10 yrs with the BFG's. Excellent for all driving/wear. If you need pics check them out here... http://thespeedfreaks.net/showthread.php?t=612 Escape

I wrote to Discount Tire to ask for some prices on different tires and they told me the Nitto NT404's are discontinued. Anyone know if this is true? I think the guy was full of sh*t.

I went through Discount tires... think I paid about $550 and some change for a set of yokos (mentioned above). Had my friend (firefighter) help me purchase them with his Firefighter discount 15%...at Discount! Can't beat that deal!
I wasn't after high performance, more of an all-season radial with the highest rating avail... think mine are H-rated. Once I upgrade to larger wheels (20"), I will go with Nittos or Kuhmo... or something high performance that doesn't break the bank. |

B.F. Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO size 235/70/16
They have 16/32's tread brand new with excellent tread wear, they weigh 38 lbs each, have the 3 ply sidewall, made in the U.S.A and are a certified "snowflake mountain symbol winter" tire. I had previously run Goodyear Fortera Tripletred 245/70/16. They handled extremely well in all conditions, but I wore them out in 12,000 miles. I like the B.F. Goodrich All Terrains very much. I can continue to drive aggressively and abuse them without worry. I bought them from Costco when they had their $80 off a set of four sale. Costco hands down has the best deal for tires they stock or can order.

General Grabber UHP FTW!!!! they are great on dry pavement, and amazing on wet pavement.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=25 $119 each!! if you are going to lower your jeep, you may want to look at a 255/45R18 for a slightly shorter and lighter tire, then you can go with teh general exclaim UHP for $140 each http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=21

Thanks for tire info. 119 isn't bad at all...compared to the nitto's and toyo's i've been looking at. I like the look of the grabber UHP also.

I was told the 255/55 would fit with a drop...I just hope they fit on a 18x7 rim ok
Additional Comment: Oh and by comparing the two...the General and the Exclaim...the General actually had better ratings and costs less... Last edited by Jpmag360; 02-17-2009 at 09:06 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

are you planning on using the H&R V8 springs?
i am a stickler for rotational mass, so i would go with the 45 series myself, for the weight and gearing advantage. even if it is a little more money - for me personally its worth it. |

Well, Max found me a site that still has the B&G's, so I may go with them...and according to Rob they are a 2" drop...
I had 45 series on 20" rims before, but I don't know how it would look on an 18" rim...That would be smaller than stock total wheel height, wouldn't it? I don't see that the Grabber UHP comes in a 45 series either...so idk...I have never shopped for tires before... |

what site did you find the B&G's from? i tried to order them years ago from HPF, and they called me to say that they were discontinued.
the 45 series profile isnt a set height, it is a ratio that determines sidewall height according to the section width of the tire, so a 275/45 will be taller than a 245/45 |

the first number is the width of the tire in mm "275" would be 27.5cm and theres 2.2cm to an inch i think so it wud be a 12.5in. tire and the second number is the aspect ratio percentage so a 275/45 would be 27.8 inches tall i think thats how that works im better with big tire conversions we do more of those at tire kingdom and back when i worked at discount tire

the first number is the section width - the widest part of the tire. not the tread width.
and 1" = 2.54cm |

How can inches make more sense to you that metric????
Metric is so much easier dude. Everything in increments of 10s and 1oos, non of that 16/32 bull****. You guys are out of your minds. |
