HU recommendation
I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on which radio works with the steering wheel controls. Of course, it would need to play mp3, have usb input and bluetooth, if possible. Thanks.

Welcome aboard.
I am pretty sure kenwood brands work with our steering wheel controls.

or you can get a PAC adapter, I am sure that they have them, as long as the stereo has a wired remote input, most pioneers do. the PAC adapters with the IR interface don't work for shit in my opinion.

I had an IR one before and it worked fine as long as nothing was blocking the sender.
Now I have a wired one and had some difficulty programming it. After 3 tries it is working fine but I am not sure what the issue was. |

alpine 103bt, pioneer mvh-p8200bt both really nice. otherwise pioneer 6200bt has external mic for the bluetooth or kenwood 945bt or 645 bt.

I love anything Pioneer for car audio. The Sony Xplode I currently have in my niner is a nice cheap money HU. It's sat ready and has the front aux port and has separate sub RCA's. It still doesn't beat the 6yr old Pioneer I have in my stang!

Yeah I love Pioneer stuff , always have, I have a Z3 in my Caprice, that I pretty much re did the mounts for everything.
![]() But don't want to do a double din in the niner, just don't feel like it I guess The PAC units can be tricky to program correctly, read the directions 5 times, then attempt it, you only have a few seconds in between button presses to get stuff to program. |

Yeah the directions took a couple of reads to get the sequence figured out.
Even after very deliberate programming, sometimes when I hit volume + or - it will change the station. I'm not sure if the steering wheel buttons aren't sending a clear signal, or if its a problem with the PAC, or the programming method, or being interpreted wrong by the HU. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the SW buttons. I do have problems with the cruise on/off button. Hard to say though. |

Does anyone have experience with this HU(DEH-3100UB)? Do I still need an adapter if I don't use the steering controls?
Not looking for anything fancy, Just the basics. Do you think it is fairly decent replacement? |

Me neither. The steering wheel controls are one of the best ideas any car manufacturer ever had.

not only are the wheel controls the best thing ever... they are exceptionally done in the ZJ... an absolute joy to use... unless you are a girl.

The ones in the WJ are pretty good too, although I do slightly prefer the larger ones in the ZJ.

I guess driving the 93 for six plus years had too much of an impact on me. I mostly drives the nines now - but I absolutely never ever remember to use the wheel controls!

Same here. In fact, I never use the left-side controls as I hardly ever listen to radio, CD's and forget Cassettes. And I guess I'm just used to reaching over to use the vollume control on the HU. Maybe if they made a more reliable aftermarket control kit for non OEM headunits I might actually consider adding one when it's time to install my Pioneer HU.
