Pull the a/c compressor?

I dunno what to do guys.. up here in washington it doesnt get unbearable with the heat.. but it sure is nice to have the cold air..

Anyways

My ac compressor clutch went tits up early last year.. and the clutch is like 100 bucks reman.. and a new compressor with clutch is like 300..

I could most likely snag a compressor clutch from a junkyard cheap telling them its a pulley or something i dunno...

But the major problem is the damn compressor isnt like any other v8 jeeps ive seen.. i actually spotted a clutch on a minivan and tore it all the way down to find out i didnt have the damn snap ring pliers so i had to abandon the clutch..

Ditch the compressor and all the ac or find the clutch..

I have a buddy at a shop with a ac machine that i can use for free so no big deal with all that etc..

So you need a new compressor? You know mine hasn't been hooked up for a while, really haven't had much need. Though now that baby Bella is getting bigger I might need to figure something out to fix it, can't be cookin my only kid.

its a bad idea. ask me how i know, lol.

removing your A/C doesnt just get rid of your cold air. it ruins your defroster. whenever your defroster is on, the A/C is on to dry out the air.

i say dont do it.

but if you do, i need one of your A/C lines, lol

You can always do what I do and just go to any parts place and be like...i need a belt a lot shorter than this. and then try the belt out, then bring it right back "nope to small" then you generally have an idea within a few inches of what you need. usually get it done in 2 trips or less.

well you can actually bypass the compressor with just a belt.. if i remember looking at it you can just run with compressor in place.. so go to the store and swap belts with a niner and no clutch fan is like a 20 second job

So.... it's not as easy as ordering a belt by asking for one from a non-AC Dodge truck?

I thought the Dodge front end setup was the same as ours.

I don't know if I've ever heard of non AC ZJ from the factory, especially later models but I figure finding Dodge trucks without AC is more likely.

Are ZJ 5.2 and 5.9 belts different? If so what component is a different size to make it require using a different belt?

The 5.9 is the only one that had an electric fan. So, I doubt that any other non-AC GC or Dodge truck belt will work.

Its not really that hard to get the right size though. Just get a peice of ribbon, route it just like you would your belt, cut to fit, and take that ribbon to the parts store with you. They will have a belt measuring device, and you will likely get it right the first try...

The Efan shouldn't make a difference. Probably right though, easiest way is measure

Just did some checking. Guess it's not as easy as I thought. Compared Dodge vs Jeep on NAPA and Autozone sites. Evidently Dodge uses different belt #s than Jeep

Shows:
Dodge: Same belt PN for 5.2 or 5.9 w/ AC. Same belt PN for 5.2 or 5.9 w/o AC but even with AC it's not the same as Jeep PN.

Jeep: Same PN for 98 5.2 and 5.9. All w/ AC. No non AC PNs.
Interesting - early ZJ 5.2 belt is different PN than late ZJ 5.2 (still no non AC PN though )

So anyone know what pulley dia or distances are different between Dodge and Jeep and between early ZJ vs late ZJ?

5.2/5.9 belts are the same.

the dodge trucks are not AFAIK. the power steering pump brackets are different.

i want to say that the gates K070893 fit, but im not positive on that.
