trusting it behind a 4.7 ain't saying much. i've owned 2 dakotas with 4.7's. the 2000 model xtra cab 4x4 ran good. it would actual do a pretty good burnout with 32bfgs. the o5 double cab would not fall out of a tree. so to get anywhere you had to drive the hell out of it. to merge on the interstate you had to punch it to the floor to get up to speed, or to even pass a car at 70 you had to have it to the floor. so driving it like that meant it didn't get but 12 to 14mpg on the hwy and about 8-10mpg in town. it was awd/fulltime 4wd so that may have been the problem. if i get that shitty gas milage i want some power to go along with it. it had 36000 miles when i bought it and maybr 45000 when i sold it. lost my ass on it 2. will never own a dakota newer than 04 again.my 318 jeep felt like it had more power tham both of those dakotas.

Something was probably wrong with that 05 then, a 4.7 should have a bit more kick than a 5.2 (similar torque, more hp).

Could have been . i bought it from a dodge dealership in late '06 with 30 something k and i hated it. I sold it about 6 or 8 months after buying it. if i am getting shitty mpg, then i want somepower to go along with it. driving 80miles round trip to work at 12 mpg sucks when you have to get a run to pass a car. i even carried it back to the dealershp because it was still under warntyty and they "said" they could not find anything wrong with it. they even let me drive a new demo 06 and it delt the same way. I guess it was just 2 muxh weight foe that little 4.7. like i said that 2000 mdel i had with a 4.7 ran good i thought. still not as good as a 318 or 360. prolly was all in my head that i needed pushrods to be happy idk. water undef the bridge now and i learned that a 4.7 is fairly weak in stock form and that i will try to never own one again unless it has a couple of turbos or a procharger on it . it is a small ci motor thou so you cant expect to much low end torque.

i'm on my phone so forgive the misspelling and i suck at proper english all the time.

The newer ones might have also just had really tall gears or something that made it seem much weaker than the 2000.

Flowmaster has awful flow numbers. More for sound, not so much for performance. My dads 09 hemi ram and hemi commander both have magnaflows. Very deep sound and not much drone. Quiets out in high RPM's though. The hooker seems to be the choice around here for 5.9's. Very good flow numbers, almost at the top. Deep sound and never gets very high pitched (Main reason I am changing my out). If you want more of a "race" sound the xr-1 is pretty beastly.

I'll post up my next setup within 2 weeks or so. Maybe it'll persuade you a bit

This might help as well, from Endless:

the supra trans that ws in early ZJ's was the Aisin Warner AW4 - basically a supra trans with different valve body. it was in the 93 4.0's, but it was an auto, not manual.

I'm not sure I got the make/manufacturer right but there was another Japanese 5spd that had been mentioned as possible for fitting into the ZJs - I'm thinking some r145 name or something but that might not be it at all, LOL

The AX-15 is also an Aisin Warner trans. There's a few similar versions of it (R154 comes to mind, but might not be correct) that were used by Toyota. Some of them had different gearing, but I don't think they were any stronger than an AX-15.

i think they are alot stronger actually, alot of those super ax15s are built from those parts, alot more of the issues are 2wd tailhousing and shift location i believe

i don't know about the toughness of those trannys, but i can't find anything here in italy.

The only option is the ax-15, with the terminator mod.

Pretty sure it has to be the one out of the Cherokee so it has the hole for the SS.

By the time the WJs came out they were putting the speed sensor ( for speedometer, etc) on the rear axle, not the transfer case, so the WJ Tcase won't have any speedomter gear or a place to install your speed sensor (pretty sure that's the case)
