    My 98 Platinum build

    I've had more than a few ZJs over the years- 5 to be exact, all 96-98 and that obnoxious tan that's everywhere, all 4.0's except for the last one which was a 96 5.2. I built the 5.2 one up on Clayton long arms and Foxes, with 5.5" Clayton springs and WJ knuckles with some cromoly steering I made on a lathe at work. The unibody is shot though, so I started looking for a new shell to work with and stumbled across a Plat Niner with 196k. The unibody is clean enough to eat off, as is the rest of the rig aside from saggy soundbar cloth and a little bit of liftgate rust.


    My old one for reference:

    I was building a .040-over 5.9 for this Jeep, but with the unibody being Swiss cheese I'm going to put it in the Plat and move everything else over as well.
    I stupidly bought the Dakota shorty headers before doing the research and finding out they wouldn't fit, so they're gone now. The rest of it has been the home to an increasingly expensive pile of parts:
    • .040-over block
    • .040-over pistons
    • New rods
    • New crank
    • Comp towing cam and valve springs
    • Edelbrock hardened pushrods
    • Scorpion 1.7 rockers for a Ford
    • FlowKooler water pump
    • R/T Dakota heads with brand new valve guides, seats, and ported/polished
    • Mopar Performance lifters
    • Mopar Performance double roller timing set
    • Melling HV pump
    • Mopar Performance valve covers (the powdercoated aluminum ones)
    • Valve cover stud conversion
    • Iron Man 4x4 motor mounts and trans mount

    The 9er needs a governor pressure solenoid, so I bought both the solenoid and sensor along with a Fairbanks shift kit and a Torco factory converter. Also have a freshly rebuilt 242 with a Novak cable shifter and Tom Woods full 242 SYE. The project is in limbo as of right now due to my thesis but I'm hoping to have the motor in by Veterans Day.
