I just didn't quite understand without looking. So it doesn't run through the fins at all, just through a tube in the side tank? Doesn't seem like that would be much of a cooler.

Well, I guess I'm still going to bypass mine. I'll blow it out with air and cap it. Hopefully I can get a trans temp gauge before winter comes back and then I'll see how its effecting warm up. I don't think it will be a problem in the summer.

    Exactly!

It transfers the ATF heat to the coolant and the coolant carries the heat through the fins.

You're right - it doesn't sound that effective, but that's how it's always worked. (except when you need even more cooling and you have to add an external cooler also)

I guess I should follow up on this with you guys. Huh.

I will grab some pictures and update. All fixed a while back but it was a pain in the arse.

I think I am going to revise the cooler positioning for better coverage. The area of the radiator that is covered by the larger trans cooler needs to be minimized. I prob. could also replace the radiator for better coolant flow. The damn thing has to be gumm'ed up quite well by 170k.

lookin to duplicate your setup and i have a few questions.

    1. why do you have 6 hose ends? i can only figure where i'll need 4 (2 on tranny and 2 on cooler) plus the 1/4 NPT adapters for the tranny. I see one was on the check valve, but i dont plan on using one of those cause most seem against it.

    2. on my grill there are bars running up and down in front of the radiator, and i dont see them in your pics. are they just support that can be removed?

    1. No really good answer. The check valve, the cooler had the -6 adapters;

    2. The supports are for holding the trans cooler and possibly supporting the GOR. The other bars are the center section of the GOR. I just cut a few of them out with a good dremel.

After a few weeks of Uber cold weather I am going to make a Trans Cooler shroud/block-off out of some sheet Alum. To help the Trans warm up better. The highest temperature that I am seeing after an hours drive is about 111F. Last year I recall temps easily around 130F; Also with a New radiator my coolant is also running cooler too; I doubt a small shroud will hurt even during hard driving since it is below 20F now.

Time to play with some nut-zerts and rivets...

I was curious about the tranny temps too!....
I have to do this upgrade also, but will need a little larger of a unit for the drag strip runs. My tranny was running from 120 up to 240 last year, which is gonna kill my clutches. I like the hardware you have!

I have yet to block off the trans cooler; the cold temps subsided; with ambient around 30F my trans will stay btwn 100-130F.

240!!!! Wow that is bad. I did 210 once with the AC on beating on it around town in 1st/2nd gear...

After the upgrade I don't recall ever seeing anything above 180F. Like I noted above the new brass radiator is also a big help.

Let me know if you want updated pictures, as I have since revised the brackets to postion the cooler closer to the center of the rad. opening.

Thanks for the hardware nod--I hate to waste money but it is all good stuff that will last and none of it is made in China.

5.9 Racer is correct; That is where I got them; I recomend getting new mounting sockets as the ones provided don't snap in like the correct mopar ones and my old mounting sockets all snapped upon removal of the old headlights...

I loved my ecodes. Much better than that ebay crap, very good output, without the glare of cheap "HID" kits.
