    Nothing Special But...

So as the title says this isn't anything special and should probably be obvious but people wanted to see the 5 speed in action so...

I raced three Jeeps within the passed week. We did 2x runs for each vehicle on a mostly unused road estimating the 1/8th mile mark using a fire hydrant as a finish line.

First Jeep was a bone stock 4.7 Non-HO 01 WJ. (I don't know if that was even worth it).

Second Jeep was a 3.5" lifted XJ on 35s with 4.88 gears (Thing was fast for its weight but after the clutch was up I was gone. Three + car lengths).

Thrid Jeep was an 04 WJ 4.7 HO with intake and catback. (I must say that thing moved. I won but not by more than a car.)

The 5 speed shines I just wish it was the Close Ratio NV3500. I have the Wide Ratio. 150 lb sub in the back, 50 lbs of random crap too. Registration claims 3827 lbs with no gas or driver. On the scale with me, the stuff mentioned before, 5/8s tank of gas, the ZJ was 4267 lbs.

Mods: H&R Springs, Addco Sway Bars, Bilstein 4600 HDs, NV3500 Tranny , Air Gap Intake, Big Gulp TB, K&N CAI, Bosch 24 lb/hr 4-Hole Injectors, Iron Ram 2.02" Heads, Patriot Headers, Custom TRUE DUAL Exhaust, Hughes Cam, 242 T-Case, Taurus E-Fan, 5.9 Louvers & Wheels, 6k HIDs, MSD Ignition, GREEN L.E.D. I imagine my 5spd isn't as fast in 60 feet as an auto ZJ would be - but damned if it ain't the most fun one to actually drive

I believe my best (going by recorded video, I don't have a meter of any kind) was 6.3 seconds. But I don't shift too fast because I don't want to mess up the NV3500.

    If I may....

The best quote I got about these trannies was from a Dodge truck forum.

"I've seen these things last several seasons in drag trucks with high rpm clutch drops and not have a problem, and I've seen others fall apart from normal use on the street. It seems to depend on what kind of a day the guys at the assembly plant were having when it was built" LOL

So they are strong and can last - but they just aren't as strong as the manual trannies that came in the various musclecars.

This is my thought exactly. And when I mean taking it easy, I mean that I'm nowhere near the best shifter (shifter positioning definitely doesn't help here lol) let alone a good power-shifter so I take my time between gears to not "bang" them or miss a gear and over rev the engine. I've invested too much into this Jeep to allow one mistake to blow the engine and/or transmission. I have nothing to prove to anyone, I don't race often, and most importantly... I built this for me and I plan on enjoying it as long as I can. Plus, the guy I bought the RAM from for the NV3500 obviously beat the snot out of it because it only had 106,364 miles on it and the clutch I took out looked like 250,000+ miles towing 10,000 pounds everyday. (aka DESTROYED! LOL)
