I am in the process of mounting up my go pro so I hope to also have some vids of the "Blackbird" before long. Unfortunately I just missed the last Wednesday night drag at Brainerd MN by a couple weeks, last time of the year was Sept 4 and I got it home Sept 27 so it may be a little while until I get some times posted.

Here are the indiglo gauges with chrome rings. Sorta ricey yet sorta awesome.
    photo(4).jpg
And here is the gauges in the a pillar (no boost at the moment because the supercharger is not on)
Attachment 0photo(5).jpgThe green led is the scanner system, it has a red led above and below to indicate whether the smokies are in front or behind you.

Here is a quick and dirty list of what I would like to do to it. (This will probably be over the course of the next few years, so don't expect it all at once!)
    1) Thorley Headers (ceramic coated) it already has a magnaflow system and performance cat, but I am tempted to add an electronic exhaust cutout also.
    2) Find a replacement 249 or 242 for when this one goes, preferably with a tom woods custom shaft in it.
    3) WJ brake caliper upgrade or other caliper upgrade. (it has drilled and slotted rotors at the moment), this will probably wait until new axle assemblies are in.
    4) Heavy duty control arms.
    5) SCT tuner (this should probably be #1 however this is not strictly in order)
    6) MSD Ignition control box.
    7) Ford 8.8 with 4.10 gears and maybe a selectable locker (I am leaning toward an ox locker), chromoly axles. (then add drilled and slotted rotors & upgrade calipers)
    8) Dana hp30 with 4.10 gears and maybe a tru-trac, chromoly axles.
    9) Tom Woods Driveshafts.
    10) Some sort of street slicks for my extra set of factory 5.9 rims (this may not be possible for these rims so I might have to use a different set, probably 15's)
    11) Possibly get the second set chromed, I really like the chrome 5.9 rims.
    12) a Trail Ready front bumper with a warn zeon winch.
    13) Rocker guards.
    14) Upgrade the scanner system to a jammer system because I am going to be driving like a bat out of hell, CONSTANTLY!
    15) This should be way higher up but I want a trans temp gauge as well so I hope to change to a 3 gauge pod and add that in.
16)* Maybe a cowl hood, I am not really sure on this one and I know they are increasingly hard to find but I would probably pick one up if I had the chance.
Also the engine has really been built well to be able to handle the SC so I was thinking possibly a smaller nitrous kit but I will have to do a bunch of research first.

If anyone has the lowdown on any of these parts used just hit me up, I would be interested in buying some things second hand if possible.
Also if there is anything that you think I should add to my list shout it out, I am always looking for recommendations. I want it to be fast as hell and capable, basically I want to smoke cars on the streets and strip while still being able to take it anywhere, anytime (asking a lot I know but it is definitely well on its way).
Capability in harsh weather/environments is also a primary concern.

You can look at my build under Canada boost for most of the stuff above... I might also be selling my 4 M&H Drag Radials on stock rims (No burnouts done ) as I am thinking Drag only for mine now so will be doing a 2wd trans and big ass slicks.

    1) & 5) I'm kinda confused on this... Did he have the ProC on there with stock mannies and stock engine/fuel management? ...or did he take stuff off it when the blower came off?

    6) NO!
Confirm this with FlyinRyan, but from what I've come to understand the ignig boxes really aren't necessary with the coils and engine management they have out nowadays - as long as you go SCT that is. Old school pre-SCT SC setups need it to control timing under boost or whatever.

    10) and 12) ON THE SAME JEEP?!!!? There has to be some kind of law against that type of thing! (nah j/k. to each his own.)

    16) - don't forget there's those uscarhood cowl hoods. Probably not as good as a Hambeck but probably cheaper - although IIRC the USCH hoods jumped up a lot in price, plus I'm not sure about the quality on them.

    uh oh....

Am I gonna have to come up there and race you Tim?

BTW - has anyone actually done the dedicated 2WD thing yet? I know sloZJ did it partway. ...and are you picturing having to do much to the rear suspension?

As for 1 & 5, the PO took a bunch of stuff off and included it. (bigger injectors etc.) I have not checked to see if the fuel pump was upgraded but my first impression would be that it was, however, he was never running an insane amount of boost anyway. I have to check but if it does not have a walbro I will have to look into getting one. And he did have headers on it but get this he thought they were too loud? Now it has the stock manifolds on there (I believe, they could be 93's) but the rest is magnaflow and he does have the crushed y area replaced. I know it seems a little silly to have a really free-flowing system and then have the manifolds on there but he said that having a reasonably quiet interior was one of his primary desires. On that note do people think I should immediately buy the Thorleys because they are not in production and running low or should I just wait a bit and hope they do another run?

Also, the PO only was running it off of the stock tune, obviously this needs to be addressed to make it run even better and create more power but it did run fairly well with only the stock computer. (This was achieved by using the stock cam, undesirable to be sure, but he said he could not get it to run right with the aggressive cam that was paired with the 406 originally) I would be happy to hear suggestions on what cams would be good for my application without being too wild but this will probably have to wait until next summer unless I get wild and decide to really dig into the engine itself before that.

As for not needing the ignition box, I was aware of this and just sort of added it in. I have heard that it is just good insurance but is not at all necessary with sct tune.

As for 10 & 12 they are opposite ends of the spectrum however the street slicks would only be used in summer sometimes and at the track. Whenever I head to the track I would take the steel bumper off, obviously it would not help my times but for DD and especially winter use I would have the steel bumper with the winch on there for added protection/capability. I am not trying to have the fastest zj out there but slaying mustangs and imports (even with the bumper) would be fantastic! Basically I want to stop just short of going beyond what could be used as a DD, I have other cars but this is both my fun DD and a cool vehicle to take to the track as a sleeper.

I have heard that those hoods work but sometimes have quality issues. I would love a Hambeck but finding one might be impossible. I sort of like the dominator ones from carhoods.com but I would probably call them to make sure that I can have the 5.9 vents put into it custom without having structural issues so that the hood retains a bit of the 5.9 look.

NoTime what are the differences in 1/4 mile times between 4 and 2 wheel drive with the 242?

No real time difference in 60ft and 1/8 mile times in 2wd and 4AWD ( not 4Full time ) have only done 1/4 in 4wd so dont know on 2wd. I intend to take the transfer case out of the equation by putting a 2wd tailshaft from a Dakota on transmission. This might be over the winter or next year.

Well at least you guys understand why these toys are so great! Most of my buddies are like, wait, that old Grand Cherokee is what you have been talking about so much? First they ask wait that's an old srt8 right? Then when I say no they ask whats so great about it then? Basically there is no getting through to these people, you just have to grin and bear it while proclaiming its really one of the greatest suv's ever made. "well it was the fastest production SUZ in 98, and really they are collectors items" Nobody gets it.

Where I live in Mexico all the expats I know in my age range (60s) couldn't care less about cars other than their use to drive to a local pharmacy to have their prescriptions filled. There are younger Mexican nationals that are into Jeeps but none in Mazatlan. That leaves me in a position where I have no one to share my projects with other than my Mexican mechanic Jose that freaks out with joy every time he sees my Plat. He enjoys learning. He had never seen or heard of an SCT tuner and I had to explain in detail all that it does. He had never seen a catch can before. He is looking forward to installing my OME lift and new injectors. That's about it for me. Everything I do for Ms. Plat I do for me and me alone. My only real connection to the world of Jeep is this forum and I'm good with that.

Now it has the stock manifolds on there (I believe, they could be 93's) . On that note do people think I should immediately buy the Thorleys because they are not in production and running low or should I just wait a bit and hope they do another run?

As for 10 & 12 they are opposite ends of the spectrum however the street slicks would only be used in summer sometimes and at the track.....

I have heard that those hoods work but sometimes have quality issues. I would love a Hambeck but finding one might be impossible. ....

So did he have a 'controller' on there like the Vortech one to fire extra injectors? Or maybe a fuel pressure regulator to increase the flow to the injectors when under boost? He should have had something on there to increase fueling under boost.
Doesn't matter now really. If you go SCT you'll have that all covered.

If the exh mannys were 93 they'd have the EGR port on the passenger side, probably blocked off with a diamond shaped plate. FWIW - from everything Ringwraith and I were able to find out, the "special" 92-93 manifolds were a Dodge thing. We were never able to confirm them being used on any ZJs. My 93 mannys were the same as my 98s except for having the EGR port.

For a supercharged build I'd go with "real" headers if you can spring for them. Block huggers are a cheap alternative but I think of them more as a compromise we had to do to get a 5spd to work in there - I don't think they have the flow of the DTs and Eddys etc.

I was just kidding on the slicks and steel bumper thing. It just seems like a funny combo. But I do like your idea of reconfiguring it for summer and the strip vs the realities of winter or trails.
I was even thinking of doing a "winter package" thing for one of the ZJs. Throw a regular grill and hood on it to facilitate cleaning and possibly save the 'valuable' 5.9 parts from damage, and maybe Laredo rocker covers in place of the 5.9 covers so they 9er ones don't get damaged going through snow/ice banks (although I've never heard of that happening.

For the hoods - if you have your heart set on one and set your mind on it and keep your eyes open you'll probably find a Hambeck eventually.

You could research what the issues were with the carhood ones and see if it might be worth tackling. Pretty sure that's what Davit/Ninergrad has on his, but he's so busy he doesn't get on here much. I can't remember if he covered it (the quality issue) in his thread or not.
The other alternative is to throw a (bolt-on/glass-on, whatever) cowl onto the stock hood. I've seen a few done that didn't look too bad. If you didn't like the idea of cutting a stock 5.9 hood for the cowl you could pull and store your stock hood, borrow the louvers from it or buy another set and throw the cowl and louvers on a regular ZJ hood. We have the "cutting stock hood for louvers" info in Tech Archives somewhere.
