    Brass terminal distributor cap
    Brass rotor
    MSD Blaster 8228
    Summit Racing 8mm
    AP3923 Spark plugs

Finally got around to installing the MSD blaster after a year an a half. Ignition plug was shot, and the wires leading into it were damaged. Fix the connection and replaced plug with plug from junk yard Jeep. Used zip ties to ensure connection. Runs like a dream.

I'm looking to add plugs, wires, cap and possibly a coil to the stockpile of parts to go on the 9er... I'm looking for a kit to make things a bit easier for me.

Any input on Kolak's kit vs DUI kit vs (whatever you guys are running and like)?

I know I saw a link for the DUI kit somewhere on here but cannot find it at the moment.

Threw a new set of Ngk 7252 (fr51) vpower coppers in for the moment, long with a new premium cap and rotor. Seems to run very well.

I have some Ngk stock replacement wires and a msd 8228 to go in. Also got a set of Ngk bkr6e's (1 step colder) just in case i hear any pinning.

do you guys find that you can peice together an "ignition package" yourself for cheaper than what Kolak sells his for?

    He has:
    Magnecor KV85 ignition wires
    MSD high output replacement coil
Coil adapter pigtail harness for '98 Jeep
Heavy duty US made brass terminal distributor cap with rotor
Autolite platinum plugs (one heat range colder than stock)

Price for the kit is $270.00

I am at the point where a tune-up is a necessity to keep it running properly so I will be purchasing these or similar components this week. I am going to do some more research and price shopping to see what some setups have run you all (ones posted in this thread) since I am a complete noob to ignition...especially aftermarket.

Any full lists with pricing of what you paid would be more than helpful. Thanks!

DIY = $201.80, less shipping from mutiple vendors.

Thanks so much for that John! I wasn't sure about the wires but thats good to know that you like them.

The only thing I found different were the wires...the ones you linked were for the I6, the v8's need the 85219 kit which is on that same site for $107.32.

That would bring the DIY total to about $245.

Kolak's Kit @ $270 - 10% discount = $243 plus his shipping cost..maybe $15? So as long as I'm not missing anything here, it looks like he has a fair price for the kit.

Yes, just get it a from him. He is a good vendor to deal with, his only downfall IMO is it can take quite a while for orders to be fulfilled.

So I have emailed Kolak to ask about the availability of the "kit" and while waiting to hear back from him, I did some more research.

I found this on the Huges Website:

    - 5.2/5.9 MAGNUM ACCEL SPARK PLUGS, 8MM SPARK PLUG WIRES, CAP & ROTOR - $130
    http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...z&partid=24264
    - MSD Coil - $47
    http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...r&partid=22831
    - Coil Adapter - $21
    http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...H&partid=23053

    Total: $198
    Shipping: $15
    Grand Total: $213

The only differences I saw with this arrangement is the 8mm wires vs the 8.5mm. Also, it doesn't specify what the actual plug model is.

A similar search on Rockauto came up with roughly $190 total and about $15 for shipping. This was with Standard Motor Products 8.5mm wires and autolite plat plugs.

I am using Taylor 8.2 mm wires (65 on ebay), NAPA Brass tipped Cap and Rotor (25-30$?), Autolite plugs, Factory coil. Runs great.

How much more output is the MSD or Accell coils over stock?

According to Kolak's Ignition Kit description, the MSD coil is 1.3 more output over stock.

Next question. If I upgrade coils to MSD or Accell will I need to re gap my plugs? They are at stock settings.

again, this is just according to Kolak's description, but he says:

The MSD high output coil has fully 1/3 more output than the factory coil, and this really works well with the Magnecor wires. It's a direct replacement, and is easy to install. With the coil and wires, you can open up the plug gaps an additional .005 for a bigger spark. The colder plugs provide better detonation resistance.
    hope this helps

I would have bought Nick's kit again but I had to go with the right color combos for the YellowJacket theme on my 93. lol.

I got the Accel coil - I believe it's the same as the MSD one but it's yellow.

Black Street Thunder wires - Taylor I think.

I believe the Black cap was Davis (DUI) brass contacts and brass contact rotor of course.

I ordered the Accel plugs cuz they show the fancy yellow ones - but the ones I got were white I didn't bother contacting them to see if they had yellow ones for my application.

Since I was doing the whole harness I just spliced the early coil connector wires in so I didn't have to use the adapter.

I had Nicks stuff on the 93 for many 10ks of miles with no problems, and I'm going to reuse it when I toss the new(er) motor into my stone white.
